Great leaders and infamous dictators both have things in common and the leadership style of each, is both similar and different.  Here are a few thoughts on leaders vs dictators regarding truth:

Dictators dictate truth

Leaders seek out truth

Dictators can’t handle truth

Leaders thrive on truth

Dictators are threatened by truth

Leaders are fueled on truth

Dictators manipulate the situation to shape the truth

Leaders guide the conversation via questions, conflict and freedom to pull out the truth

Dictators want to be the single source of truth

Leaders honor truth wherever it is found

Dictators will sell the truth

Leaders are willing to buy the truth

Dictators see their opinion as truth

Leaders go after many opinions in search of truth

Dictators are easily defined by their bending of truth

Leaders understand that lies and leadership don’t go together

Proverbs 23:23 says: “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.”

Truth has a cost, it must be purchased and Proverbs tell us to buy it.  It doesn’t say “buy if it’s on sale” it doesn’t say “don’t pay too much”  nor does it say “wait until bargain Friday.”

It is very seductive to know we can skip the truth and not have to pay the price and at times, every one of us has skipped the truth so we didn’t have to pay up.

Ironically as leaders we know that ignoring and/or delaying, ends up costing us more.

The verse goes on to say we need to also buy wisdom, instruction and understanding.

Truth, instruction, understanding and wisdom are all keys to success and great leadership and worthy of the price.
