Every day I troll the Amazon Kindle Daily Deals, and it’s usually disappointing. Then, out of the blue, between mounds of romance fiction and self-help books, this book sticks out like a sore thumb. I bought it instantly.
I didn’t jump right in; it sat in a holding pattern while I finished the book I was currently reading. Once I picked it up, I could NOT put it down.
This book was purely one of those, “God knew I needed this right now” books. But more importantly, it’s a great book. So great, everyone needs to read it!
“You’ll grow only to the threshold of your pain. To grow more, raise your threshold.” –Samuel Chand
Everyone experiences painful times, and leaders get an extra dose. In fact, you can’t be a leader without experiencing pain. Samuel Chand does an impressive job combining the right ingredients to help us understand what leadership pain is. Think of it as insight into how God uses pain as His classroom to grow and shape us.
“Don’t run from your pain. Don’t deny it exists. It’s the most effective leadership development tool the
world has ever known. You’ll grow only to the threshold of your pain, so raise it!” –Samuel Chand
If you are a leader, you need to read this book.
If you want to be in leadership, you need to read this book.
If you are in ministry, you need to read this book.
If you volunteer anywhere, you need to read this book.
If you work with people in any capacity, you need to read this book.
If you want to know why leadership can be hard, you need to read this book.
“Difficulties are part of God’s curriculum.” –Samuel Chand
Many books start well, then struggle to get to the finish line. Or they begin and end great with a bit of a lull in the middle. Not so here! Each chapter follows the theme, and the chapters build. It’s well organized, well written, and has great stories and illustrations. Each chapter
- starts with a good story (or two).
- is followed by some great thoughts, insights, illustrations, and principles.
- ends with three key thoughts: “know this,” “do this,” and “think about this.”
And just about the time you feel like you’ve arrived at the destination, the author wraps it up with a great conclusion.
“Pain isn’t an intrusion into the lives of spiritual leaders; it’s an essential element
in shaping the leader’s life.” –Samuel Chand
There are books you read only once and books you keep around to be read at crucial moments in your life. Leadership Pain is clearly the latter and one you need to read.
